Request an assessment for ADHD or autism
Understanding whether you or your child may have ADHD or autism can be an important step towards getting the right support. An assessment can help explain difficulties you may be experiencing and identify appropriate advice, support and treatment. Below you can find information about referral and assessment options for children and adults, including NHS and Right to Choose services.
THE LEEDS ADHD & AUTISM SINGLE POINT OF ACCESS HUB is the team that we refer all patients to.
They are a small, dedicated team within the Leeds GP Confederation who are trained to provide advice and support for adults- aged 18 or over managing ADHD and/or Autism symptoms.
They are a pre-diagnostic service, therefore, they can only support patients without an existing diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism. They are unable to support medication queries.
If after their support and information gathering, the patient still wishes to be referred for an ADHD, Autism or a Dual assessment, and there is enough clinical evidence to justify a referral then they will offer a choice of assessment providers that can meet their needs and complete the referral.
The service does not provide any kind of immediate mental health provision.
If you would like to proceed with a referral please contact the practice via the sytsm connect form indicating which service you require. The Secretary will contact you to inform you when the referral has been made to the above team.
Private referral
If you would like to be seen privately, the practice will follow Amber guidance, i.e. only take over prescribing and monitoring once the dose is stable with no further dose changes planned / anticipated. We would not be able to provide ongoing bloods and tests whilst establishing you on medication until shared care was agreed.
In Leeds, children and young people can be referred for assessment of neurodevelopmental (ND) conditions, including ADHD and autism.
- Autism assessments are available from the preschool years onwards.
- ADHD assessments are available for children aged 6 years and over.
NHS referral pathway
Children can be referred to the Leeds Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team by their GP or, in many cases, directly by their school. Before requesting a GP referral, we recommend discussing your concerns with your child's school.
Right to choose
Families may choose to use the NHS Right to Choose pathway, which allows referral to an NHS-funded independent provider for assessment.
